Turn Indica rice into Japonica rice
2020

The Indica rice was shaved one by one by a handy router so as to make it close to the shape of Japonica rice, and the powder produced during the process was packed in a glass bottle. The total weight of shaved rice and powder was 500 g.

Shaved Indica rice and unshaved Indica rice (500 g) were arranged in parallel.

This work was exhibited at “Poco-Poco-Coke & Potato-Icchip” at Tenjinyama cultural plaza, Okayama.

I had been eating Indica rice almost every day when I stayed in Stockholm from July 2019 to March 2020.

Because the mainstream rice in there was Indica rice and that can purchase very cheaply, and Japonica rice was very expensive.

However, I had reluctance to eat Indica rice that I was not used to eat until I left there. This was just a small part of my reluctance that existed in my staying.

I was believed myself that I was a kind person to accept foreign cultures before. However, I realized the difficulty to do that in just seven months. I could understand it in my mind but I reject it physically and emotionally.
